Week 4: Thursday, Exploring Narrative

Marta led the class today and engaged students through an exquisite corpse-like activity that truly tapped into the students' imaginations. Marta began by asking the children to draw or write about a personal attribute, interest or concern on a post-it note. The students' post-it notes were shared on the white board and the exercise grew into a collaborative effort as students worked together to create a new story from these initial contributions. Large sheets of paper were provided to draw out or perform each part of the story: explosions, killer bees, castles and a skateboarder give you an idea of some of the drama this story contains. Issyah provided the narration, Ben gave direction, and Sam ended the narrative with a flip across the room. The children had a wonderful time and we hope to post a video of Issyah's narration in the near future. For now, we have some photos of the process. Enjoy!
