We asked students
to consider the terms shelter, habitat and home. How are they similar
and how are they different? We talked about basic needs (food &
water, shelter, clothing) and how comforts such as a soft blanket, a
decorative picture, or warm clothing can add to our sense of home and
well being. Animals were noted for their resourcefulness at using items
from their environment to build their homes. For today, students were
asked to create an animal or person for whom they will create a shelter,
habitat or home next week. Soft toys brought from home could be used
for inspiration. We asked students to work on a small scale to create
their figures (to make them suitable for their intended habitats) using
Model Magic or Playdoh. By the end of the class, students gave life to a bear, wolf, whale,
young girl, puppies, sheep and more! Please see below:
