We began our lesson on September 18th with a picture book titled
3-D ABC, A Sculptural Alphabet by Bob Raczka. It is a beautifully photographed book that introduces many different sculptural styles and forms, giving students an important overview of what sculpture can be.
For our project, we reviewed Duchamp's ready made sculpture titled "Bicycle Wheel" (see link and picture below) and a couple of the sculptures viewed during our Oak Park Sculpture Walk field trip yesterday ("Five"& "Fleeting Consequence") . We strongly encouraged students to allow their imaginations and creativity to guide them in their own work.
Students used container forms, donated goody bag items from birthdays of long ago, and a variety of odd and ends from packaging, plastic utensils, and "spent" art supplies such as markers, glue sticks, paint pots and markers. Take a look their innovative and fun "ready mades" and found object sculptures below : )
