Beye Discovery students embarked on their 1st field trip of the year to Stevenson Park! Students were asked to put their own architectural strengths to work in the sand and to build with height, originality, or decoration in mind. Children were reminded of the skyscrapers we created in the previous class and were presented with images of Gaudi's work (originality) in addition to ornate Victorian architecture (highly decorative). Take a look at their process and finished structures below. We had so much fun!

On the day following our trip, we discussed some of the joys and challenges of building with sand. Having the right proportion of water and sand was important, as was achieving taller heights without breaking apart. Patience, determination and confidence were essential and the students did a great job of exhibiting all of these : )
