Post Contributed by Jocelyne Adkins, Program Director
About 2 weeks ago, we collected leaves and plants around our school and pressed them, weighted with magazines and books. Today, we arranged our dried leaves and plants on plexiglass and framed them, preserving a bit of nature to enjoy well into the future. After framing the work, the students were encouraged to draw what they observed from their compositions, using colored pencils and softly colored cardstock (the colors of earth and sky).

For added inspiration, we shared some of the beautiful botanical illustrations
from the book "Fruit, An Illustrated History" by Peter Blackburne-Maze.
We were quite impressed by the careful observations students made in
their own illustrations in regard to shape, size and color. Even slight changes in color along a leaf's edge was noted by some students and recorded in their drawings. Kudos to all for such an inspiring and rewarding afternoon!
