Post Contributed by Ally Bernstein, Assistant Teacher
Hello Beye Discovery families! This is
Ally Bernstein, the after school assistant teacher for the 2013-2014 school
year. On September 4th, I led the Beye Discovery students in an
activity that I have practiced for a long time – nature journaling! Nature journaling
can be both meditative and exciting. You never know what you’ll discover when
you sit down and look hard at the world around you!

Students created their journals by collaging and
coloring onto recycled cardboard covers to personalize them.
By punching holes in the journal pages and attaching them with keyrings, students
will have the opportunity to add more pages as the journals fill up.

Next, we took our journals
for a test run. The students were invited to enjoy the beautiful late summer
weather by bringing their journals down to Beye’s new native plant garden.
Students drew bees pollinating the flowers, beloved Beye trees with arms
stretched upwards, and squirrels that dashed around the garden. It was quite
inspiring to see the students so engaged with nature! We will return to these
journals again as the seasons change to document more observations in our
natural world, right here at Beye!
