1st Day of School in Beye Discovery: A Fun-sicle Afternoon!

Post Contributed by: Jocelyne Adkins, Program Director

Ally and I were quite eager to meet and welcome our students to Beye Discovery on this first day of the school year! It was certainly hot, but we played that up with our popsicle project, asking students to design a new brand of popsicles ~ a great way to cool off on a hot summer day, or in this case: a hot, end-of-summer school day!

To introduce the project, we asked student volunteers to draw images of popsicles on the white board. Then students went to work using watercolors to illustrate their own invented brand of popsicles. There were some very original ideas, ranging from cat-sicles and pirate-ship-sicles. A very cool beginning to our highly anticipated 2013-2014 school year!!!
