Hi Families,
On February 16th, we were very excited to have Cindy Summers, Proprietor of Sugar Fixe Patisserie in Oak Park, visit Beye Discovery to present a cupcake decorating workshop!!! Since we had created paintings of cupcakes the week prior (inspired by the paintings of Wayne Thiebaud), we thought it would be a great idea to focus on the creative talents of those who bring such delicious treats to life!
Cindy showed us the "tools of the trade" and provided step by step instructions, from selecting a frosting-tip shape, to filling the pastry bag, and of course to "piping" a perfect spiral of frosting. In her demonstration, Cindy wowed us with two beautifully piped frosting designs, one made with a star-shaped tip and the other made with a round-shaped tip. The students were very eager to try this piping technique on their own. With focused concentration and patience, they created little works of art that were begging to be eaten... and with a final dusting of colorful little sprinkles, we enjoyed our special treat!
