Beye Discovery New Family Welcome

Post contributed by Jocelyne Adkins, Program Director/Educator:

On Sunday afternoon, we invited Beye Discovery families who were attending Beye's "New Family Welcome", to stop by beforehand to see our classroom and to meet Beye Discovery teachers (I will introduce teaching assistants Andy Coppersmith and Maegan Jenkins in a separate post this week). Five families joined us and it was great to meet in-person before our "big day" on Wednesday!

To put the children at ease, we set out two popular "free-time" toys in Beye Discovery: Zoo-morphs and Citiblocks (a twin to Contraptions). Despite some initial shyness, the children did what do they do best, and they let their imaginations and building skills take over. You can see some of their creations below.

The half-hour flew by much too quickly and I wish we could have stayed and talked longer with each family. Instead, we needed to whisk everyone back downstairs in time for Mr. Ellwanger's not-to-be-missed official Beye School New Family Welcome. For the next school year, I've made a note to host our Beye Discovery meet & greet for a full hour prior to the larger gathering in the Commons. Despite the brevity of the occasion, Andy, Maegan and I enjoyed meeting our new families. We are more eager than ever to get the ball rolling with our students this Wednesday! See you all then!
